Junior High After School Recreation Leader III

SALARY:  $10.80 - $18.82 per hour, DOE 
DATE OPEN:  Friday, January 25, 2008
DATE CLOSED:  Open until filled; preference given to applications received by February 15, 2008.
HOURS:  Supplemental, part-time position; 10-15 hours per week; afternoon and evening hours. Hours may vary.  Position is limited to 1,040 hours per year.

Duties:
Under the direction of the Teen Program Coordinator, this position provides on site leadership and support for junior high students (7th -9th grade) programs at Redmond Junior High. Duties include but are not limited to: interacting with junior high students and providing supervision for after school drop-in program; planning and leading activities appropriate for a junior high audience; providing supervision and ensuring participant safety in busy drop-in program for 20-150 students per evening; maintaining program site including site preparation and clean-up; supervising and supporting program volunteers and partners; and performing other duties as assigned.
**Note: lead or co-leader status may be established based on level of qualifications and leadership experience.

Qualifications:
Ability to: multi-task in a busy drop-in setting; enforce program and city policies/procedures; problem solve and deal with potential emergency situations; work in a team setting; communicate effectively with teens, other staff, volunteers, school partners and contract instructors, in a multi-cultural setting.
Knowledge of: teen interests, including previous experience with youth program development and implementation.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma and college-level coursework towards a degree in recreation, art, education, public management, at-risk youth or related field. Ability to design and implement youth programs for junior high level students and up is preferred. Bilingual desired.

Licenses and Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire and a driving record that meets City standards. Current First Aid and CPR certifications by date of hire. Flexibility to work additional hours beyond regularly scheduled programs for special events.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a school environment, subject to frequent interruptions and potentially stressful situations. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
