Duties:
Under the direction of the Stormwater Operations Supervisor or designee, this position operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs varied manual work to clean, inspect and maintain the City’s stormwater systems. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting more experienced employees in repair and construction projects; operating equipment including vactor, TV truck, dump truck, jack hammer and common hand tools; performing catchbasin repairs; controlling traffic at work sites by setting up warning signs and flagging traffic through work areas; operating weed eaters, mowers and other equipment to maintain stormwater systems and detention pond areas; responding to off-hour, emergency call-outs; and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: municipal stormwater operations; general construction practices and techniques; safe work methods.
Skill in: use of  hand tools and equipment of the trade.
Ability to: understand and follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively with the public and all levels of City staff using tact and discretion; and work independently and in cooperation with others.

Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to High School diploma AND one (1) year of public utility or other closely related work experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform this job.

Licenses/Requirements: Valid Washington State Class A commercial driver’s license with combination endorsement, Flagging card, and First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, and a driving record that meets city standards. This position is subject to the drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Highway Administration. Fulfillment of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions: Outdoor, crew-oriented work environment subject to varying weather conditions; driving a vehicle and operating equipment to conduct work; exposure to noise and fumes from equipment operation; must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, stand and walk on rough or uneven ground, and lift materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds..
