Duties:
Under the direction of the Wastewater Operations Supervisor or designee, this position maintains and makes repairs to the City’s wastewater collection system. Duties include but are not limited to: maintaining equipment found in sanitary sewer lift stations; performing TV inspections of existing and newly constructed pipes; operating equipment used to clean sewer lines; using a variety of hand tool, powered tools and construction equipment; controlling traffic at work sites by setting up warning signs and flagging traffic through work areas; responding to emergency call-out situations as necessary; and, performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: wastewater maintenance operations, general construction practices and techniques; safe work methods.
Skill in: use of hand tools and equipment of the trade.
Ability to: understand and follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively with the public and all levels of City staff using tact and discretion; and work independently and/or in cooperation with others.

Education and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to High School diploma AND one (1) years public utility or other closely related work experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform this job.

Licenses/Requirements:
Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire, and a driving record that meets city standards. Ability to obtain Class A commercial driver’s license with combination endorsement, Flagging card, and First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months of hire. This position is subject to the drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Highway Administration. Fulfillment of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed outside and inside, sometimes in inclement weather and confined spaces. Some portions of pump stations and the collection system are hot, cramped or malodorous. Some surfaces are slippery or open grate. Employees risk physical hazards from traffic, potentially toxic gases, fumes and infectious diseases. Incumbents are required to lift up to 75 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, enter 24 inch diameter access openings, bend, twist, squat, stoop, kneel and reach. Position requires manual dexterity, hearing and visual acuity.
