Hours:
Spring Quarter (March-June): 0-20 hrs/wk to include weekends as
scheduled.
Summer Quarter (June 16-August 30): 0-40 hrs/wk (Monday-Friday), weekends as
needed.
Fall/Winter Quarter (September 1- February 28): 0-20 hrs/wk to include
weekends as scheduled.
Additional programs and farm maintenance work may be added, depending on
instructor availability and demand.
Qualifications:
Teach elementary riding programs (English and Western Style) for children ages
2-16 years through adult age horsemanship. See attached program information. Ability to teach English and
Western style riding techniques; ability to follow set lesson plans; ability to
work with children and adults; able to recognize basic health and behavior
problems of horses and follow coordinator's horse handling procedures; ability to
be available for animal feeding/stall cleaning as back-up to regular maintenance
staff; knowledge of proper care/use of riding equipment; ability to
oversee/schedule teen/adult volunteers; enforce department policies and
procedures.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license and a driving record
that meets City standards. Must be willing to obtain first aid and CPR
certification upon hire. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to be trained for
tractor duties. A City of Redmond application must be completed even if a resume
is attached.

Additional Group Pony Programs
If additional programs are needed, the Farm Coordinator will work with the
instructor to determine if this is possible. This depends on availability of
instructor/volunteers and the use or over-use of the ponies. Classes will not be
added unless the instructor confirms that they can teach the program.
Beginning Pony Workshops
This class is designed for the first time rider. Two students per pony will
learn: safety around ponies, basic grooming and riding techniques. This class is
a requirement for 4 year olds before they can attend a Just Horsin' Around I
class.
Parent/Child Pony Workshops
This class is designed for the first time rider 4+ years and parent. Two
parent/child groups are assigned to a pony. Safety, grooming and riding
techniques are introduced.
Just Horsin' Around I (English and Wstern)
The Just Horsin' Around I class is on safety and beginning riding techniques.
The children will learn to groom, saddle, bridle, and hoof pick. They are led
each class except the last session, when they ride on their own (with spotters)
in our arena.
Just Horsin' Around II & III (English and Wstern)
The Just Horsin' Around II expands the participant's knowledge of
horsemanship. Emphasis is put on reining, leg control, and use of aides and
horse behavior. Activities vary based on abilities of students. They could
include: led trail ride, additional riding time, and games.
Junior Horse Masters/ Beginning and Intermediate (Either English or Western)
Designed for the beginner/intermediate rider who is 8-12 years old. Each
child is assigned to one specific pony. The program is designed to be on-going
to progressively develop equestrian skills and knowledge each month.
Junior Horse Masters Trail Ride
An hour trail ride through the forest for those that have completed the
Junior Horse Master Intermediate class program.
Pony Camp
Offered during winter, spring and summer vacations only. This program
combines riding and classroom activities. Participants learn parts of horses,
saddle parts (other detailed horsemanship skills) during the camp. The
additional riding time helps refine techniques. Activities include: trail
ride/cookout, crafts and activities related to the program.
Volunteer Program
We have a “Pony Club” volunteer program that is essentially managed by the
Pony Instructors. The Pony Instructor will work with staff to set and conduct
volunteer/seasonal staff orientation sessions and monthly training/ride dates.
