Outdoor burning regulations adopted by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) prohibit outdoor fires in the "carbon monoxide non-attainment area."  This area, defined by PSCAA, includes the urban areas of King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.  The entire city of Redmond and portions of King County Fire District 34 fall within this No-burn area.  For details, see the online map for King County Fire District 34.

Residential:  Apply for a Residential Burn Permit if you will be burning no more than 1 pile at a time, the pile will be no larger than 4 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height, and you meet the other requirements listed for Residential Burn Permits.

Land Clearing:  LAND CLEARING BURNING IS NO LONGER ALLOWED. The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency adopted a permanent ban policy on land clearing burning in February 2008. "Land clearing burning" means outdoor burning of trees, stumps, shrubbery, or other natural vegetation from land clearing projects (i.e. projects that clear the land surface so it can be developed, used for a different purpose, or left unused).

Who is affected by this ban?

  • Any person clearing land for the purpose of changing its use, which may include:
    -Commercial property developers
-Residential property owners clearing land for building
-Contractors who clear and grade land

Who is not affected by this ban?

  • Silvicultural fires (forestry)
  • Agricultural burning (commercial farms)
  • Recreational fires (campfires)
  • Fire department training fires
