A carbon copy permit will be filled out at the time of application.  However, for information purposes, you may view the Land Clearing Burn Permit here.

Redmond Fire Department / King County Fire District 34 will allow land clear burning in some areas of the fire district during the months of March, April, May, October, November, and December. For a map with the burn boundaries, please see the online map for King County Fire District 34 as established by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.  You may apply for a burning permit at the Headquarters Station, Redmond Fire Department located at 8450 161st Ave NE, Redmond. The office is open from 8:00-5:00. A non-refundable fee of $25.00, payable to the City of Redmond, will be collected at the time of application. Prior to a permit being issued, your burn site will be inspected by fire department personnel. This inspection will take place following the submittal of the application and payment of the fee within three working days of the fire department being notified that the site is ready for the inspection. If the burn site complies with current regulations, the permit will be left with the applicant or their designee at the site; if no one is present, it will be mailed to the address on the application. If the burn site does not meet current regulations, the applicant will be notified.

Permits will be issued on the following terms and conditions and for the purposes stated herein:

  1. Pile(s) shall be no larger than 25’ in diameter. A firebreak of dirt shall be constructed around the burn pile before lighting the fire.
  2. An adult and equipment capable of extinguishing or controlling the fire must be in attendance at all times while burning.
  3. At least one fan must be on site and operating at all times to facilitate burning. Fans shall be used on all fires in excess of 10’ in diameter.
  4. No more than one pile shall be burned at a time. Each burn pile will require a separate inspection and permit.
  5. Piles shall be a minimum of 250’ from any structure(s).
  6. The fire shall only contain natural vegetation which has grown on the property identified on the permit. (It is illegal to haul in material from other sites).
  7. This permit may be suspended or canceled by Redmond Fire Department / King County Fire District 34, when deemed necessary for the protection of life, property, or air quality.
  8. Particulate matter from the outdoor fires must not be allowed to become deposited upon the property of others.
  9. This permit shall only be valid during the months of March, April, May, October, November, and December.
  10. This permit shall not be valid during any air pollution episode or period of impaired air quality.
Any or all of these conditions may be modified by the Fire Department Inspector.

Any permit issued may be revoked for the protection of life or property or to prevent or abate the nuisances caused by such burning. (A nuisance would be defined as ash fallout or smoke accumulations in the area of residential occupancies.)

The violation of or failure to comply with any provision of this permit is a misdemeanor. RCW 52.12.106

If a person starts a fire without a permit or if a permit holder fails to comply with any term or condition of the permit, and as a result of that failure the fire department is required to suppress a fire, the person or permit holder is liable for the cost of fire suppression services.
