Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a Redmond firefighter?
The Redmond Fire Department participates in the Regional Firefighter Recruitment Consortium.  Written and physical agility testing for entry-level firefighters is performed by PublicSafetyTesting.com.

Does the Redmond Fire Department have a volunteer program?
No.

Does the Redmond Fire Department have an Explorer Program?
Yes.  Redmond Fire Department is the proud sponsor of Explorer Post #007. The Explorer program is open to youths aged
14-21 who are interested in the fire service. Explorer members commit to at least one year of meetings, public events, and limited fire/medical-rescue call responses. Meetings are held Monday evenings.

My doctor told me that I can go to the fire station and get my blood pressure checked.  Is that true?
Yes, you can stop by any Redmond fire station, 7 days a week. The office staff or emergency response personnel will take your blood pressure and record your personal information on a "blood pressure card" so you can keep track of how your blood pressure is behaving.  It's also good information to share with your personal physician.

Does the Fire Department allow outdoor burning?
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) regulates indoor and outdoor burning in the urban areas of King County. The Redmond Fire Department works closely with PSCAA to help enforce outdoor burning regulations. Outdoor burning is not allowed within the city limits of Redmond; however, outside of a PSCAA regulated burn ban, a small "cooking fire" (for the preparation of food only, and no larger than 4 feet in diameter) is allowed as long as it is 50 feet from any structure. Outdoor burning is allowed with a permit in more rural portions of King County Fire District 34 only during the months of March, April, May, October, November, and December.  The burning of construction materials or trash is not allowed at any time. For information on obtaining a burning permit, call the Fire Department at 425-556-2200.  For more information on indoor and outdoor burning restrictions, call PSCAA at 206-343-8800 or 1-800-552-3565.

I've been contacted by a group asking for donations to the Washington State Council of Firefighters (WSCFF).  Does that money go directly to the Fire Department?
No, the money does not directly benefit the Redmond Fire Department. Part of that money is used for lobbying in Olympia on behalf of firefighters and their safety issues, and the other part of the money is paid to the company who does the soliciting on behalf of the WSCFF. If you have any complaints or would like more information, you may contact the WSCFF directly at
1-800-923-3473 or 1-800-572-5762.

If you want to donate directly to the Redmond Fire Department, you can send a donation to the Redmond Aid Car Fund,
8450 161st Avenue NE, Redmond, WA 98052.  If you are donating in memory of a loved one, please include the address of a person to whom we can send an acknowledgment of your gift.  These donations are used to purchase medical supplies and equipment for the treatment of patients in our community.

Does the Fire Department rescue cats from trees?
No. The Fire Department does not respond to these requests. Redmond Fire Department exists to assist the public in the protection of life and property by minimizing the impact of fire, medical emergencies, and potential disasters. We understand that pets are very important to you; however, to be consistent with the mission of the Redmond Fire Department, we recommend people contact the following agencies for assistance or try the yellow pages under "Tree Service."
