Would an emergency vehicle have difficulty locating you? Because street lighting in rural areas is usually unavailable, finding house numbers can be difficult and, in an emergency situation, time spent looking for an address, not providing aid, can make the difference. Suggestions for Numbering or Lettering: Use colors that can be seen easily and that contrast with background colors. Night viewing is enhanced by reflective numbers (commercially available), "glass beads" mixed with paint, or fluorescent paint. Place numbers or letters where they can be seen: appropriate angles and heights relative to roadways and approach paths. Choose a size that can be seen from the roadway by emergency vehicles.
