In the post, skills are taught that are not only pertinent to the fire service, but
also to life. Skills such as ladder operations, hose evolutions, basic EMS skills, and search-and-rescue have been taught, and are expected to be retained by the Explorer.
Explorers participate in a wide range of public education activities including station tours, fire prevention
events and open houses. The ability to work and deal with unfamiliar persons is an important skill that the Explorer
learns and uses. Throughout the year, Explorers work closely with the Redmond Fire Department
Public Information Office.
An integral part of the fire service and the Explorer program is teamwork.
Teamwork brings unity, friendship and excellence in completing tasks.
Explorers must be able to work well with other explorers, firefighters and
paramedics.
Physical fitness is critical in an Explorer's ability to perform and train to
their potential. Personal fitness is emphasized in Explorer training. Each member is expected to maintain a minimum level of fitness during his tenure with the RFD. Members are required to participate with the crews' personal fitness time during ride-alongs.
