How to Apply

PDF Business License Application and PDF Business License Application Fee Schedule
You can complete the application online, or print it and fill it in manually.
(If using the online method, please print a copy, sign the application, and submit the signed copy of the application and completed business license fee schedule.)

Does my business need a license?

A business license is required to engage in business in the City of Redmond. If your commercial or in-home business will be located inside the city limits, you will need a City of Redmond business license. Please view the City of Redmond map listed under General Maps to determine if your business is located in the city limits. If your place of business is not located within the city limits, but you or your agents will be physically coming into the City to conduct business or to call on clients, you will also need a Redmond business license. In addition, those who earn money without physical presence by providing services such as telecommunications or be receiving rents need a City of Redmond business license.

Please refer to the list of exempt businesses if you are not sure whether your business requires a business license.

License Renewal

All business licenses expire December 31 of the year issued and must be renewed annually. Payment of your renewal license must be made on or before January 31 or late fees are assessed. The license will not be considered valid until all late fees are paid.

If you are planning to sell or close your business, you must notify the City.  A notice of closing or sale of the business, including the effective date, is required to officially close your account.  Non-payment of the license renewal fee does not automatically close your business license account.

The Application Process

You may complete the application packet in one of two ways, either online (a writeable PDF, City of Redmond Business License Application ) or by printing it (PDF) and completing it by hand. If you choose to complete the application packet online, please print a copy, sign it and submit the signed copy. If you complete the packet by hand, please submit a signed copy. Return your completed application packet to the address listed on the application by US Mail or in person. Also print the Business License Application Fee Schedule and complete as instructed below. Please make your check or money order payable to the "City of Redmond".

Starting in September 2004, all Redmond businesses, public agencies, and non-profit organizations located within Groundwater Protection Zones 1, 2 or 3 will be required to complete a Hazardous Materials Questionnaire (HMQ) before a 2005 business license will be issued or renewed.  The HMQ is a required component of the Wellhead Protection Ordinance that was adopted by the City Council in October 2003 in an effort to protect Redmond’s drinking water source.  For questions or for more information contact the Wellhead Protection Program website, staff at 425-556-2756 or groundwater@redmond.gov.
