After a Fire

Contact your local disaster relief service if you need temporary housing, food and medicines.
Check with the fire department to make sure your home or office is safe to enter.
The fire department will see if utilities are safe to use before they leave. Do not reconnect utilities yourself.
If you leave your home, contact the local police department to let them know your house will be unoccupied.
Make an inventory of damaged items for your insurance before throwing items away.
Locate your valuable documents. Notify insurance and mortgage companies.
