Project:
West Lake Sammamish Parkway Corridor Study
Area:
From NE 51 Street to Bel-Red Road
Funding:
$400,000
Funding Source: City of Redmond business tax revenue
West Lake Sammamish Parkway between NE 51 Street and Bel-Red Road is a
critical link in Redmond's transportation system to three urban centers:
Downtown Redmond, the Overlake neighborhood, and to the City of
Bellevue. The Three Year Priority Action Plan in the Transportation
Master Plan (TMP Section 9) identifies the need to widen Bel-Red Road
from NE 30 to NE 40 Street and on West Lake Sammamish Parkway from Bel-Red
Road to NE 51 Street to accommodate 4-lane sections in both of these
areas.
Before projects can be built, they must be studied and then designed.
The process usually involves a preliminary engineering step and a final
design step, both of which are the start of project development. A
corridor study (part of the preliminary engineering phase) is planned
for West Lake Sammamish Parkway to look at alternatives to improving the
section between NE 51 Street and Bel-Red Road. Funding for the study is
City Council-approved and will be supported by the City's business tax revenue.
There is currently no funding dedicated for construction.
The original West Lake Sammamish Parkway corridor study extended from
Bel-Red Road to Leary Way. Phase I construction improved West Lake
Sammamish Parkway between Leary Way and the entrance to Marymoor Park.
Phase II improvements were constructed from the entrance to Marymoor
Park to NE 51 Street. Improvements to the intersections of West Lake
Sammamish Parkway at Bel-Red Road and at NE 51 Street are BROTS
(Bellevue/Redmond/Overlake Transportation Study) projects. BROTS, and
other projects, are listed on the Transportation Facilities Plan under
Section 6 of the TMP.
