Following the public meeting held on May 30, staff returned to the City Council on June 6 with preferred alternatives for NE 85 Street and 164 Avenue NE.  Council approved moving forward with final design of the NE 85 Street project and with continuing coordination with the Washington State Department of Transportation on 164 Avenue NE.

At the end of March, approximately 30 Redmond residents and business owners attended a public meeting held at City Hall to hear the City's proposal to convert two downtown streets from four lanes to three - NE 85 Street between 154 and 166 Avenue NE and 164 Avenue NE between Cleveland and NE 87 Street.

The following diagrams for 164 Avenue NE are proposed representations of how sections along that roadway may be rechannelized:

• from Redmond Way to NE 80 Street
• from NE 80 Street to NE 83 Street
• from NE 83 Street to the Brown Bag restaurant
• from the Brown Bag restaurant to NE 85 Street
• from NE 85 Street to NE 87 Street

The following diagrams for NE 85 Street are proposed representations of how sections along that roadway may be rechannelized.  These diagrams include options proposed for rechannelization in front of the Redmond Post Office and for bus stops in or removed from through traffic:

NE 85 Street between 158 and 160 Avenue NE:

• Option 1.  Bus "pull-out" in front of the library
• Option 2.  In-lane bus stop

NE 85 Street between 160 and 166 Avenue NE:

• NE 85 Street between 160 and 161 Avenue NE
• NE 85 Street between 161 Avenue NE and the Redmond Post Office
• NE 85 Street between the Redmond Post Office and 164 Avenue NE
• NE 85 Street between 164 and 165 Avenue NE
• NE 85 Street between 165 and 166 Avenue NE

Community input is an important part of any roadway conversion process.  The City gathered public comment about this project proposal through April 30, 2006.  Take a look at the project handout distributed at the public meeting and the newsletter that was delivered to all business owners in the proposed project areas.
