Updates
November 13, 2009
The Cleveland Street Sewer Project is near completion. The contractor is presently awaiting weather conditions to complete the channelization on the roadway.
September 23, 2009
The contractor is currently excavating access pits for the side sewers in preparation for the pipe bursting activities scheduled to begin Thursday, September 24. There will be minor modifications to the traffic detours on Cleveland Street as work progresses eastward. It is recommended that large trucks use alternate routes to bypass the Cleveland Street Corridor.
September 16, 2009
The contractor has completed the replacement of the sewer
main between 161st Avenue NE and Brown Street and is now in the process of
removing steel plates and patching the asphalt pavement. The next phase of
the project will be to replace the sewer main between Brown Street and the east
side of Leary Way. To facilitate construction, the remaining sections of
the sewer main will be replaced using a trenchless "pipe bursting" method
instead of excavating an open trench. This will reduce, but not eliminate,
the amount of open trenches and steel plates required to replace the sewer.
The contractor will continue to excavate open pits, as needed, for pipe bursting
and for connecting existing side sewers into the new sewer main. The next
run of pipe bursting, from Brown Street to Leary Way, is expected to begin
Monday, September 21, 2009.
August 20, 2009
Beginning Friday August 21st excavation for a large sewer manhole and the
installation of new sewer pipe will begin in Cleveland St. Traffic will be
detoured through a parking strip adjacent to Cleveland St. between 160th and
Brown St. The detour will be in effect Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. Large trucks are advised to use Bear Ck. Parkway as an alternate
route.
At the end of each work day and during weekends Cleveland St. will be open to
two lanes of traffic. Lane and parking restrictions are expected to affect
approximately one block at a time and move east, along with the work zone, as
construction progresses.
August 13, 2009
Beginning on Monday, August 17th, trenching will begin in Cleveland Street.
The initial work involves setting a large manhole in Cleveland Street which will
require closing both traffic lanes of Cleveland Street on Monday, Tuesday and
possibly Wednesday. During this time, traffic will be routed through a
parking lot on the north side of Cleveland Street.
After the manhole is installed, construction will proceed east toward 164th Avenue NE. In the vicinity of the work zone, one traffic lane and the parallel parking areas on both sides of the street will be closed, traffic will shift to the south and be restricted to one lane.
When possible, at the end of the work day (generally 3:00pm), two lanes will be opened to traffic. Lane and parking restrictions are expected to affect approximately one block at a time and move to the east, along with the work zone, as construction progresses.
