The City of Redmond is improving the stormwater system in Overlake Village by constructing rain gardens within existing streets during the summer of 2012. New rain gardens will be attractive, functional, and will provide stormwater treatment and flow control to protect creeks downstream from urban runoff.
The streets selected currently have more pavement than needed for transportation demands and the rain gardens will be installed entirely within the existing City right-of-way. There is no planned property acquisition or additional right-of-way needs for this project. To see the areas in Overlake where rain gardens improvements will be installed, see “Map of Rain Garden Locations” below.
This project will also make the area more pedestrian friendly and give a peek into the future of the Overlake Village. Please note that rain gardens may be removed as redevelopment occurs in this neighborhood and streets are widened in the future.
Project Update: July 23, 2012
The project has been designed and bidding is complete. The project is scheduled for award by the City Council on July 31, for construction starting in late August.
