PLEASE NOTE: Postings to this page may be made up to the day of the Construction Preview on May 22nd 2014.
Residents interested in safety improvements that will be in construction this summer on 166th Ave NE should attend the Construction Preview on Thursday May 22nd from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Redmond City Hall (15670 NE 85th Street).
Meeting attendants will see the project design and hear about the construction schedule and potential impacts to those who live in the project area. Visual representations of project components will be on display, with project staff available to answer questions related to design and construction.
What will the 166th Ave NE Safety Improvements Project accomplish?
166th Ave NE will be reconfigured between NE 85th and NE 100th Street to one through lane in each direction with a center two-way left turn lane and shoulders/bike lanes on both sides of the street while maintaining the southbound right-turn lane at NE 85th Street.
Two new pedestrian-activated rectangular rapid flashing beacons and new crosswalks will be added at NE 91st and NE 95th Street. Design for future improvements (such as a roundabout or traffic signal at NE 95th Street) will occur if funding becomes available.
Speed radar feedback signs that tell drivers how fast they are going during school zone hours will be installed. These devices DO NOT take pictures.
The traffic signal at NE 85th Street will include a green arrow to create a protected left turn from northbound 166th Ave NE to westbound NE 85th Street.

How will the project improve conditions along 166th Ave NE?
Vehicular speed will decrease. More drivers will comply with the posted speed limit when lanes are reconfigured and speed radar indications are installed.
Collision rates will decrease.
Added shoulders/bike lanes will provide a buffer between pedestrians and traffic, and improve sight distance for side-street drivers entering or exiting 166th Ave NE. New protected crossings at NE 91st and NE 95th Street will enhance the pedestrian environment.
Slightly increased delays for some turning movements and longer queues are anticipated during peak periods.
