You may notice Wastewater Division staff inspecting manholes in your neighborhood. Inspections are conducted in two or three quick steps. First, staff looks at the condition of the manhole lid and casting and the material surrounding them (usually asphalt). Then they open the manhole and look for any structural defects. Finally, they repair minor defects or arrange to return to conduct more extensive repair work.
The purpose of manhole inspection is to identify minor problems before they become major issues and
collect detailed data for planning efforts. Wastewater Division staff hope that regular manhole inspection will lead to quick response to customer concerns.
Some manholes blend-into City Streets, some are in privately-owned landscaped areas, and some look like submarine hatches in Lake Sammamish!
