This summer, Redmond will celebrate the inaugural Great Day of Play, Friday, August 19 from 3 to 7pm at Redmond City Hall Campus, 15670 NE 85th Street.
Families who value health, fitness, recreation and bringing “play” to their lives will enjoy this event, which features a youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a 5K race/walk, skateboard and fitness demonstrations, trampoline fun and a special appearance by Seattle Sounder, Steve Zakuani.
Both the youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament and the 5K race/walk require pre-registration. The basketball tournament is for boys and girls, grades 3 through 8, and will be held outdoors at the City Hall campus rain or shine. This event begins at 2pm. Teams are limited to four players maximum; the team entry fee is $75. Pre-registration is online at www.redmond.gov/econnect.
The 5K race/walk course is along the paved Sammamish River Trail. Competitive and non-competitive racers will find the course flat, fast and USATF certified. Prizes in top categories will be awarded.
The pre-registration fee for the 5K is $30 per person and expires on August 18 at 5:30pm. Onsite registration is $35 and begins at 4pm on August 19 with the race starting at 5:30pm. Pre-registration is online at www.active.com; search for Redmond’s Great Day of Play.
