Cultural Inclusion

Culturally Inclusive Community

The City of Redmond is committed to being a leader and fostering a culturally inclusive community. We believe that being an inclusive community is foundational to building a supportive and collaborative community and promotes mutual respect and appreciation for all of the cultures in our community. We also believe that the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences of all people makes our nation and our communities richer and stronger.

Cultural Inclusion Resolution
Redmond City Council, Arts & Cultural Commissioners, and community stakeholders celebrate the adoption of the Cultural Inclusion Resolution on January 17, 2017.

To enjoy the full benefits of a rapidly changing and global society, municipal governments must make equity and equality the cornerstone of the way we work. By fostering a welcoming environment for all individuals, Redmond’s cultural fabric, economic growth, global competitiveness and overall prosperity are enhanced.

The City of Redmond affirms its commitment to inclusiveness and incorporates diversity into every part of City operations. We do so by:

  • Welcoming and engaging with all community members and visitors regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, country of origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, religion, income, political persuasion, or cultural practices;
  • Continuing to adopt policies and programs citywide that improve our culture of inclusion, and leading by example to encourage other jurisdictions to do the same; and
  • Empowering the Redmond Arts and Culture Commission to promote our culture of inclusion through arts and cultural activities and initiatives.
