Business License Fees & Payments
City of Redmond business license fees are based on the total number of employee hours worked in Redmond in the previous calendar year*.
The minimum fee for any license is $109.00, covering up to 1,920 hours worked in Redmond. In addition to the annual employee hours reported to Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I), you must include employee hours for sole proprietors, owners, managers, partners, and any officers, agents, family members working at the business or personal representatives acting in a fiduciary capacity.
Annual employee hours may be calculated based on the sum of employee hours on the four quarterly reports submitted to L&I for the previous year. It will be the responsibility of the employer to determine the number of hours worked within the City from these reports. The work figure used by L&I is 1,920 hours per year for a full-time employee. Multiply the total number of employee hours worked in Redmond by $0.056770 to determine the total amount due.
The license fee may also be calculated by multiplying the number of full-time equivalent employees that worked in Redmond by $109.00. The number of employees shall be based on the sum of the employees in the four quarterly reports submitted to L&I for the previous year divided by four.
*Employers starting a business this year need to estimate the number of employee hours to be worked or the number of employees who will work from the date that the business started, or will start, in Redmond until the end of the current calendar year. Business licenses expire December 31 of each year.
Any non-profit entity exempt from taxation under 26 U.S.C. Sec. 501(c)(3), upon furnishing the city proof of its current IRS 501 (c)(3) exemption certificate issued by the Internal Revenue Service may claim an exemption from the licensing or renewal fee when applying for a license or renewal.
