Leary Way Streetscape
City of Redmond staff are preparing three draft sidewalk width standards for Leary Way. The Planning Commission will consider these alternatives during their review of the Old Town Historic Core Plan update, and will ultimately select one to include in their recommendation to the City Council.

The alternatives are:

14’ streetscape (current standard for Leary)
  • 4’ planting/furnishing zone
  • 8’ walk area
  • 2’ buffer (allows for articulation of building façade, planters, etc.)

    12’ streetscape
  • 4’ planting/furnishing zone
  • 6’ walk area
  • 2’ buffer (allows for articulation of building façade, planters, etc.)

    Performance-based standard
  • Variation 1: Sidewalks are 14’ by default, but a portion of new buildings may be set 2’ closer to the curb if a wider is provided public area somewhere else along the façade, such as a plaza, setback, or public seating area.

  • Variation 2: Sidewalks are 12’ by default, but buildings may be set 2’ closer to the curb if a wider public area is provided somewhere else along the façade, such as a plaza, setback, or public seating area.

Staff will be presenting the alternatives to the Planning Commission in summer 2016. We are actively seeking feedback on these alternatives, particularly the performance-based standards. For comments or questions, please contract Patrick McGrath: pbmcgrath@redmond.gov or 425-556-2870. In addition to this phase, the public will have the opportunity to comment on these standards during the Planning Commission review in summer 2016 and during the City Council adoption process to follow.
