Farrel-McWhirter Farm School
The Farrel-McWhirter Farm School offers the citizens of Redmond and the Seattle area the opportunity to connect with nature and rediscover our common “roots”. Using beautiful Farrel-McWhirter Farm Park as our classroom, the Farm School endeavors to cultivate a strong, vibrant community through agricultural education for ages two years through adult.

We are currently offering educational and hands-on classes on a variety of topics center around the farm and forests of Farrel-McWhirter Park. Classes are conveniently arranged by age to ensure a fun, but educational experience for all students. Through its programs, the Farm School hopes that students will discover all the wonders and bounty that farming and nature has to offer.

'All About' Series (2-5 yrs old)

A very special series of classes especially geared for the littlest of farmers! Participants will enjoy exciting classes that will teach them ALL ABOUT farm animals, vegetation, tractors, and fun! Classes include a crafts, stories and hands-on education and encounters.

Barnyard Explorers (6-9 yrs old)

A “Farmtastic” series of classes and camps designed to introduce children to the wonderful world of Farm and Nature. Participants will delve into the natural world in classes on animal sciences, ecology, forestry, gardening, and much more. Potential learning outcomes in the Barnyard Explorers series include: Food Literacy and nutritional awareness, group cooperation and peer interaction, gardening skills, animal handling and care, native plant and animal identification, scientific analysis and method, and much more. There is always new and exciting classes each season.

Nature and Farm Sciences (9-13 yrs)

These classes allow Teens and Tweens to spend time outdoors, make new friends, and hand pick their area of interest in the Natural World. Through hands-on learning participants can explorer personal scientific interests, and/or take classes that provide insight into potential career paths such as: Veterinary Medicine, Conservation Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Technology, Landscape Architecture, Soil Sciences, Organic Farming, and much more. Farmers in Training (F.I.T.) Program

Ages 12-17

Gain agriculture experience, leadership skills and job training by volunteering in our Farm School Summer Camp programs. Assist Day Camp Staff by leading fun and exciting agriculture-based camps for children ages 31/2 - 9 years old. Receive animal handling training and education on the husbandry and nutritional needs of the species housed at Farrel-McWhirter. Additionally, receive instruction on working with children and how you can assist the Day Camp Counselors. A F.I.T. t-shirt is included and will be provided at the training. In order to apply, applicants must do the following: Applications and schedule request forms are due June 10th, 2016.
