The City of Redmond established a new commission to advise the
Mayor and City Council on a broad spectrum of human services
including basic services, health care, counseling, domestic violence
and family support. Those with an interest in these and
related issues are invited to apply for a position on the Human
Services Commission. Human Services Commissioners are appointed by
the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
The Commission's role is to advise the Mayor and Council on general
human services issues and to make specific funding recommendations
as part of the City's budget process every two years.
Desirable qualities of a commissioner include a strong interest in
the issues, a willingness to learn and a passion for working to
strengthen the City's effectiveness in addressing these issues.
It is expected the Commission will meet at least monthly, with
additional meetings likely needed during the months when funding
allocations are considered.
The new Commission will consist of seven members, five of which must
be filled by Redmond residents. Two seats may be filled by
individuals who work in Redmond but don't necessarily live in
Redmond.
Interested individuals should download a
community service application
form from the website, or contact the Mayor's office at
425-556-2101 for the form. Mail the completed application no
later than July 31 to the Office of the Mayor, City of Redmond, PO
Box 97010, Redmond, WA 98073-9710 or fax to 425-556-2110. All board
and commission members are volunteers.
For

responsibilities, contact Colleen Kelly at 425-556-2423,
