The City of Redmond has linked 16 of its traffic cameras within
the city limits to the City's website.
At this site, residents can check the traffic at these intersections
before leaving the home or office and from many mobile devices.
The addition of traffic cameras on the website marks a milestone in
the development of the Redmond Intelligent Transportation System
(RITS). This project provides much more efficient management
of traffic infrastructure throughout Redmond. With the
improvements, traffic operations staff can remotely coordinate
signals thereby matching the signals to the traffic situation at
that time. This type of customization significantly improves
the flow of traffic. In addition, the traffic cameras provide
drivers with information to better plan their trips.
"We are very pleased to offer some of our traffic cameras on the
website for use by our residents," stated Mayor John Marchione.
"This is one improvement we promised in our report to the community
after the December snowstorms. These cameras will make it
easier to check the traffic situation any time of day and also
provide assistance on travel conditions during a severe winter
storm."
Redmond is one of six jurisdictions in the region with traffic
cameras available for public use. Over time, additional
cameras will be added to the City's website, broadening their
usability.
