Public Meeting for Changes to WLS Parkway

A public meeting for Redmond residents to learn about and provide comments on proposed changes to West Lake Sammamish Parkway between Bel-Red Road and NE 51 Street will be held on Thursday May 21 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Redmond City Hall Council Chambers, 15670 NE 85 Street.  Mayor John Marchione will be on hand to welcome meeting participants.  Members of the Overlake and Viewpoint Citizen Advisory Committees will be present to hear your comments and questions.

City of Redmond staff recommends a roundabout for the intersection of West Lake Sammamish Parkway at Bel-Red Road.  This meeting will include opportunities for participants to:

  • view project displays
  • learn about the corridor's existing conditions and anticipated future character
  • learn about roundabouts
  • ask questions of City staff
  • provide feedback to the City as part of a preference survey
West Lake Sammamish Parkway is identified in the City's Comprehensive Plan and in the Transportation Master Plan as a critical link in Redmond's transportation system connecting three urban centers: Downtown Redmond, Overlake and Downtown Bellevue.  The purpose of the West Lake Sammamish Parkway Corridor Study is to take a comprehensive look at the corridor to determine the future configuration of the roadway and where it intersects with Bel-Red Road and with NE 51 Street.  A kick-off meeting in September 2007 and neighborhood meetings in Viewpoint and Overlake in October and November 2008 gave area residents opportunities to review study and design information, see a presentation on roundabouts and share comments and opinions with project staff.

Comments gathered at the May 21 meeting will help the Planning Commission and the City Council make final decisions about West Lake Sammamish Parkway based on what they hear from the community.

For more information about proposed improvements to West Lake Sammamish Parkway, contact Tricia Thomson, Project Manager, at tthomson@redmond.gov or at 425-556-2776 or visit the City website.
