The City of Redmond encourages all interested residents and
businesses to attend a facilitated workshop on Monday, May 18 from
6:30 to 8:30 pm at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th Street.
This workshop will continue the public process for the rewriting of
the zoning code. Staff will report on the feedback gained from
citizens at the first community stakeholder meeting in February.
Staff will also seek input from attendees on a set of guiding
principles for the rewrite that were developed in part from what was
heard from stakeholders.
The zoning code rewrite is a multi-year effort to update the zoning
code, known as the Redmond Community Development guide (RCDG).
While the RCDG has been modified over the years, it has not received
a thorough rewrite since 1978. This rewrite is necessary to
achieve greater clarity, conciseness and usability, while
maintaining the goals and vision the City has adopted in it
Comprehensive Plan.
The first phase, started in January and ending in June, includes
early citizen and stakeholder input to identify the current code’s
strengths and weaknesses, examine alternate zoning methodologies and
adopt guiding principles for the rewrite. Phase Two, the
actual rewrite of the code, will begin this summer with the final
document adopted in spring 2011.
