The City of Redmond is celebrating the installation of a
state-of-the art field at Grass Lawn Park, Field 2, 7031 148th Ave
NE, on Friday, May 8 beginning at 4pm. Everyone is invited for
a special program with remarks from Mayor John Marchione and a
representative from FieldTurf Tarkett. This installation at
Grass Lawn Park is the 3000th turf installation for FieldTurf
Tarkett. Refreshments will be provided.
After the brief ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees will be treated
to a girls fast pitch softball game - the Redmond Mustangs vs. the
Garfield Bulldogs, beginning at 5 pm. Mayor Marchione will
throw out the first pitch.
"This completes the final phase of renovations at Grass Lawn Park,
home to many of our City's wonderful recreational activities," notes
Craig Larsen, City of Redmond Parks and Recreation Director.
"Thanks to the creative vision and hard work of the Parks and Trails
Commission, city staff and our contractors, the park now offers this
community state-of-the art fields and a true gathering space."
The final phase of the renovation included: new synthetic turf,
consolidation of two softball fields into one multiuse field with
soccer field striping, restoration of backstops and new sports field
lighting. An expanded lawn area near the picnic shelter also
creates a greater open area for play and casual use while new
landscaping improves aesthetics and provides a visual buffer at the
park boundary.
A year ago, the all-season picnic pavilion and restrooms, children's
play area with splash pad and climbing boulders, fountain, and
redesigned basketball court were completed. The all-season
picnic pavilion offers glass walls that can be opened, a covered
patio with cafe' tables and chairs, space heaters, a fireplace and
artwork.
