King County Executive Ron Sims has nominated newly elected
Redmond Mayor John Marchione to serve on the Sound Transit Board.
Mayor Marchione will replace Bellevue City Councilmember Connie
Marshall who resigned early this year. This appointment is the first
for a City of Redmond elected official.
“One of my priorities for 2008 is to move Redmond towards playing
a more active regional role and there is no more pressing issue in
the region than transportation,” states Mayor Marchione. “I am
honored to be able to serve with many distinguished colleagues and
build on their prior work as we move towards a revised Sound Transit
plan for the future.”
The Sound Transit Board has 18 members, consisting of 17 elected
officials from King, Pierce and Snohomish counties and the Secretary
of the Washington State Department of Transportation. Seattle Mayor
Greg Nichols is the current Board Chair. Mayor Marchione joins
Issaquah City Councilmember Fred Butler and Kirkland City
Councilmember Mary-Alyce Burleigh, in representing the interests of
the Eastside on the Sound Transit Board. His appointment must be
approved by the Metropolitan King County Council.
