Traffic Collision Sends Two to Hospital

Officers from the Redmond Police Department’s Patrol and Traffic Divisions responded to a two vehicle collision that occurred on the northern border of Redmond at the start of the evening commute. The collision occurred at the intersection of Avondale Road NE and NE 116 Street at approximately 4:15 this afternoon. Calls to 911 indicated that two vehicles had collided head-on. The driver of one of the vehicles was transported by Medics to Harborview Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The second driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The southbound lanes of Avondale Road remained closed for just over three hours as officers from the Redmond Police Traffic Division investigated the collision. Metro was alerted as southbound traffic was diverted onto NE 116 Street. Early indications are that alcohol is not a factor, and that one of the drivers may have made an illegal turn, failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
