Police Investigate Fatality Collision Involving Dump Truck and Pedestrian

On October 19, 2007 at approximately 8:23 AM, Redmond Police Officers responded with the Redmond Fire Department to a fatality collision involving a dump truck and a pedestrian.

A dump truck, pulling a trailer, was traveling northbound on 148 Avenue NE attempting to turn onto eastbound NE 36 Street. During this turn, a pedestrian walking northbound on 148 Avenue NE attempted to cross from the south side of NE 36 ST. The pedestrian was struck by the rear trailer of the dump truck and died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 52 year old Bothell man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The deceased is a 21 year old Bellevue man. The family of the victim has not been notified and positive identification is pending from the King County Medical Examiners Office.

The collision is being investigated by the Redmond Police Traffic Division with assistance from the Washington State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The investigation is ongoing. NE 36 Street between 148 Avenue NE and 150 Avenue NE will remain closed throughout the afternoon.
