The public is invited to attend a groundbreaking celebration with
Redmond Mayor, Rosemarie Ives on Friday, October 26 at 11am in Grass
Lawn Park, 7031 148th Avenue NE, Redmond.
This celebration marks the beginning of construction for Phase
III of the park’s improvements. Previous improvements have included
improved tennis courts and the soccer and softball fields.
The cornerstone of the Phase III improvements is a new community
building and patio that will serve as a place for neighborhood
gatherings and picnics, as well as drop-in relaxation and programmed
use. The 1400 square foot pavilion will include restrooms; large
doorways that open fully to create an open, airy feel; a fireplace;
outdoor space heaters under the portico and art.
Also included in the project is a second building to expand
existing operations and maintenance facilities and outdoor
recreation facilities, such as a boulder climbing area, children’s
play and spray equipment, pathways and a resurfaced basketball
court.
The entire project is designed to incorporate environmentally
sustainable design features. Rain gardens, pervious pavement for
pathways and courts, natural detention of storm water and a “green”
roof on the maintenance structure are all contributing to lessen the
project’s impact on the environment. The incorporation of these
features into the design has been facilitated by a $470,000 grant
from the Washington State Department of Ecology.

Manager at 425-556-2334 or
