Two Suspects Apprehended After Fleeing from Stolen Vehicle

All suspects from a stolen vehicle are in custody after running from Police. On October 3, 2007 at 5:30 pm an off-duty Redmond Police Commander saw two men acting suspiciously near 16000 NE 116th Avenue NE, Redmond. The two men were loitering near a white van. The van did not have license plates and was parked in a residential construction area. There had been recent reports of illegal activity in this area and it appeared the two men were attempting to open a storage shed.

Using a Police radio, the Commander called for assistance from on-duty Officers and began to follow the van as the two men drove away from the area. Before Police could make a traffic stop, the driver stopped the van in the area of 13900 NE 128th Street, in King County, and both men ran from Police on foot. The passenger, a 44-year-old Maple Valley man, was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. The driver, a 36-year-old Maple Valley man, continued to run on foot.

Several agencies assisted in the search for the driver, including the King County Sheriff’s Office, Kirkland Police, and Bellevue Police. With help from these agencies, the driver was located by Redmond Police K-9 “Monty” in the area of Willows RD and NE 124th Avenue. “This is a great example of how well eastside Police and Sheriff’s agencies work together to combat crime. We are fortunate to have such good working relationships,” said Lt. Gately. The van was reported stolen from Tacoma in July. This case is under investigation by Redmond Police Detectives.
