Redmond, WA – On
Friday, August 24, 2007 Redmond Police began responding to an
increased number of car prowls, which had occurred overnight. A car
prowl is a crime of opportunity in which an unauthorized person
breaks into a vehicle to steal contents inside. In the Redmond cases car windows were smashed and electronic items
such as GPS units and car stereos were stolen. Police are processing
every scene for evidence and canvassing neighborhoods looking for
any suspicious circumstances. All of the car prowls occurred in the
Overlake and Grasslawn Patrol districts (West and South areas of
Redmond). Year to date, Redmond Police report that car prowls have
increase by 33% from 2006 to 2007.
Citizens can easily AVOID BECOMING A VICTIM: (1) Always lock your
vehicle & roll up all windows; (2) Remove ALL valuables from your
vehicle (including laptops, GPS devices, & cell phones/chargers);
(3) Report suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1. ### |
