Redmond Police Officers, Staff Honored With Awards

Two Redmond Police Department officers and civilian employees were recently recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in 2007.

Officer Matt McAdam of Spokane received the 2007 Lieutenant John Miner Excellence in Policing Award. This award is presented to an officer or supervisor who attains excellence in the area of community policing and epitomizes the qualities and dedication possessed by the late Lieutenant John Miner. Miner was killed in an ice climbing accident in 2004 after 30 years of service. The award is voted on and presented by the Redmond Community Policing Advisory Board. “It is an honor to receive this award and be thought of as someone who exemplifies similar characteristics as Lt. Miner,” McAdam said.

Three RPD employees received City of Redmond All-Star Awards, which are nominated and selected by each individual department. Lt. Doug Krueger received the City’s Officer of the Year Award. Krueger leads the department’s auto theft (ProAct) team which recovered 69 stolen automobiles and assisted other agencies 58 times last year. They are on pace to surpass those numbers in 2007.

Lead Dispatcher MarySue Balazic, of Lake Stevens, received the Civilian Employee All-Star Award. “MarySue has proactively coordinated numerous Communication Division projects. She is a talented and enthusiastic force behind our team’s success,” Dispatch supervisor Rich Day said.

Lynnwood native Jill Steele received the Supplemental Employee of the Year Award. “Jill is selflessly sacrificing time intended to be her retirement years to assist our short-handed division. She has served in several capacities and does it without fanfare, knowing her position receives few accolades,” Day said.
