Important things to know about requesting police records:

  • Requests are processed in the order received.
  • There is a charge for copies of public records.  Check the current fees for costs that may apply.
  • We have five business days in which to respond to your request.  Within that period, we may send the requested copies, deny the request, provide a letter stating more time is required due to volume of requests or legal review.  If more time is needed, an estimated date of completion will be provided. (RCW 42.56)
  • Our agency is not authorized to provide public records consisting of a list of individuals for commercial use. (RCW 42.56)
  • Public records are subject to disclosure unless otherwise exempt from disclosure, in whole or in part, by law.  You will be notified of any redactions and the law authorizing the redaction.
  • Police case files and other city records are retained according to the Washington State Records Retention Schedule.

NOTE: Please contact the Redmond Prosecutor's Office at 425-556-2108 if you are requesting documents involving a recent arrest by a Redmond Police officer or a case with pending court proceedings.
