The NE 116th Street Improvement project will complete corridor improvements between 167th Avenue NE and 174th Avenue NE.
Road improvements include:
- Sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the street
- A soft trail on the North side of the street
- Two travel lanes and a center turn lane
- Signalized pedestrian crossing west of 169th Court NE
- A roundabout at the intersection of NE 116th Street and 172nd Avenue NE
- Landscaping and irrigation on both sides of the street, in the medians, and roundabout
This project will also upgrade and construct a new storm drain system and detention pond, relocate and upgrade existing underground utilities, water, sewer and gas mains. In addition to the road improvements all overhead power and communication lines will be converted to underground.
Lowering the roadway grade west of 172nd Avenue NE and raising the roadway grade east of 172nd Avenue NE will be required to accommodate the new roundabout. During construction, there will be periods when the traveled roadway will be compacted crushed rock. Emergency access and access to all properties adjacent to the project will be maintained at all times; however, it is highly recommended that this area be avoided and that individuals use alternative routes.
During construction, NE 116th Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic during typical day-time working hours and opened to two-way traffic during non-working hours Monday through Friday. Expect long delays during construction work hours. Construction is expected to begin in July 2014 and be completed in Spring 2015.
