Farrel-McWhirter Preschool

Farm & Nature Preschool at Farrel-McWhirter

The mission of The Farm and Nature Preschool is to provide a nature and play-based experiential learning environment to help foster a sustainable culture in our community. Located in the unique setting of a working farm and forested park, our preschool program supports the learning and development of our students mentally, emotionally, physically and socially. Through time spent outdoors in nature as well as through free play and group time in our preschool cottage, we work to provide all children with the opportunity to learn about what interests them in ways that are effective and meaningful.

Our preschool’s curriculum is grounded in the philosophies of learning through play, emergent curriculum, and discovery. In addition to play-based, experiential learning, our curriculum includes science, math, language, visual arts, music, movement and environmental education. These are coordinated into theme-based units which follow the natural cycles of change on our farm and in our forest, stream and meadow. Through our program, children gain independence and self-esteem as they are encouraged by caring and experienced teachers to be active participants in their own learning.

Preschool Summer Play Dates

The Farm & Nature Preschool, located at Farrel-McWhirter Park at 19545 NE Redmond Road, Redmond, will be holding two play dates this summer for registered and prospective families for the 2016-17 school year.  Both play dates will be held on Saturdays at the Hutcheson Picnic Shelter at Farrel-McWhirter Park from 11am to 1pm.  Please bring a sack lunch and join us for this fun opportunity for you and your preschooler to meet our teachers and their classmates for the upcoming school year.  Siblings and other family members are welcome and you may stay for as much of the time as you would like.  Because we have some allergies at our preschool, please no peanuts, tree nuts or seafood of any kind.  Thank you so much.

Saturday, May 21 - This first play date is for registered and prospective families.  If you're registered for next year, or if you're just interested in learning more about our school, please come and join us in the park to picnic and play.  This is also the one play date where you will be able to tour the Preschool Cottage.

Saturday, June 18 - Our second play date is also for both registered and prospective families.  Even if you are the first one, c'mon out for the second one too!  It's so valuable for our teachers to spend some time with our students in this fun and relaxed setting and it's a really great chance to get to know parents as well!

If you have any questions about our play dates or our preschool, please contact Preschool Director Paul Ehlen at pehlen@naturevision.org

The additional school day offers more opportunities to explore math, language and science concepts as students are encouraged to ask and answer questions about the world around them. Our daily outdoor adventures in nature and on the farm are opportunities for your preschooler to gain experience, confidence and self-esteem. Through individual and group activities in our cottage classroom, our students learn the personal and social skills that are the foundation of future school success. As with all our classes, we seek to support the learning and development of our students cognitively, emotionally, physically and socially. This class shares the half indoor, half outdoor model of all of our classes.
