OPPORTUNITIES AT THE OFH

The Old Fire House Teen Center has been serving the teens of Redmond since 1992. We choose volunteers who want to contribute positively to their community, acquire office or other real-world skills, supplement their resumes, work on senior or class projects, and more! The OFH has friendly and knowledgeable staff to help guide you during your involvement, whatever your role!

The following listings of volunteer opportunities provide an idea of what each opportunity entails, the commitment level needed, and what skills are to be gained. For more information stop by the OFH or call Rana Shmait at 425-556-2371.

SENIOR PROJECTS

Over the last few years, the Old Fire House has been fortunate enough to be involved in numerous Culminating (senior) Projects. Examples of past Culminating Projects include: benefit concerts, benefit silent auctions, audio recordings, sound engineering, fashion show, silk screening, and tutoring programs. Many of our Event Internships & Program Internships double as Culminating Projects (including Rock-a-thon, Live Sound Recording, Art Shows, etc). Fill out a OFH Senior Project Proposal sheet and discuss with OFH staff your plan for your senior project and how the OFH would be able to support you. Staff at the OFH can serve as advisor roles and sign off C.P. paperwork. It is important that you meet all the necessary deadlines as assigned by your school.

EVENT INTERNS

Some examples of event internship programs include: The Benefit Gala, Rockathon, Spring Prom, End of School Bash, Derby Days Parade, Skate Competition, Redmond Arts Festival, Turkey Bowl and more!

PROGRAM INTERNS

The OFH has three month long internships focused on specific continuous programs. Rather than working towards one event, these interns support numerous events & activities that fall under one concentration (music, drop-in programs, administrative, etc). These internships require a steady commitment for the length of the internship, usually 5-10 hours a week for three months, with opportunities available year round. Many seniors have incorporated program internships as part of their Culminating Projects.

WORKSHOPS & LECTURES

The Old Fire House provides opportunities for young people to share their knowledge or skills with their peers. Workshops and lectures are fun and low key activities that require minimal preparation. Leading a workshop or giving a lecture helps you to practice public speaking, especially giving directions or explaining your topic of interest.

ADVISORY BOARDS

Redmond's young people have continually worked together to create a better community, from petitioning Redmond's City Council for a teen center 16 years ago, to Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee (RYPAC) providing dinner for homeless people at Tent City. The Old Fire House's Advisory Board continues that tradition of youth advocating for positive change, and serving their community. This is a great opportunity for those youths who want to shape the direction of the Old Fire House, coordinate community service projects for OFH youths, and gain valuable leadership qualities.

VOLUNTEER/COMMUNITY SERVICE

Whether for a school assignment, court, honor society, or your own need to do good, the Old Fire House always has a need for volunteers!

Volunteer- if you want to volunteer, just come down to the OFH, talk to staff there about what opportunities there are, and get started. Some tasks include cleaning the kitchen, helping set up for Wednesday night dinners, organizing spaces, making flyers, decorating for events, gardening, and more!

Community Service- for community service with specific time requirements for school or clubs, call or meet with OFH staff the week before you would like to start your community service at the OFH, so staff can set aside work to help you fill your time requirements.

For court-ordered community service, contact OFH staff with the phone number of your diversion counsel and information regarding the timeline and time obligation of your community service plan. At the time of your completion OFH staff will write you a formal letter of competition, and call your diversion counselor if necessary.
