All regular status full and part-time employees are eligible for the following:

PAID LEAVE

Holidays - 12 days per year
Vacation - 12 days per year during years 1 and 2
Sick Leave - 12 days per year, plus may be eligible for sick leave bonus
All paid leave is prorated for regular part-time employees.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

The City provides medical, dental and vision coverage for regular status full and part-time employees and their dependents. The City offers two health plan options: a self-insured, City- sponsored medical plan (Red Med) and a medical plan through Group Health Cooperative. Employee co-pays are modest and depend on plan choice and number of dependents.

The City has on-site workout facilities available to employees. In addition, we offer an active Wellness program that promotes health and wellness for our employees through a variety of ways:
  • Organized activities such as wellness walks and brown bag trainings.
  • A hosted website where you can participate in various employee challenges, track your activity level, or your biometric information.

GROUP & LIFE INSURANCE

The City provides employees with Group Term Life insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance coverage. The option of additional life insurance is available to employees through payroll deduction.

SOCIAL SECURITY REPLACEMENT

The City's Municipal Employees Benefit Trust (MEBT) is a Social Security replacement program that is very popular with employees. Employees contribute an amount to MEBT equal to what they would contribute to Social Security. The City matches 80% of the employees' contribution. Employees are fully vested in the plan after five (5) years of service.

RETIREMENT

All regular status full and part-time City employees are covered by the Department of Retirement Systems for Washington State PERS or LEOFF plans. Participation in this retirement system is a requirement for covered positions.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

The City offers a voluntary 457 deferred compensation plan.

SALARY INCREASES

Generally, salaries for new employees are negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience. Employees are eligible for salary increases at the end of their probationary periods (typically 6 months, except for some Civil Service positions) and annually thereafter conditioned on acceptable performance. The City may also provide cost-of-living increases.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The City of Redmond provides a variety of training and development opportunities to its employees, including: continuing education, Leadership Academies, Tuition Reimbursement, and job specific technical training.

The City also encourages and supports career development for its employees and, when possible, seeks to promote qualified employees.

COMMUTER INCENTIVES

The City provides a free ORCA bus pass to employees (to be used for commuting to and from work, or for other work purposes), or subsidizes vanpool fees for employees choosing those commute trip options. In addition, the City offers generous incentives to employees who participate in the Commute Trip Reduction program and either carpool or use alternative methods for "commuting" to work, like telecommuting, walking, biking, etc.

HOURS OF WORK

City offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual departments or divisions may establish flexible work schedules to meet seasonal workloads and user group needs. Police Department Patrol employees work a 10-hour shift schedule. Fire Department Suppression employees work a 48-hour shift schedule. Some positions may require weekend, holiday, or overtime work.

UNION AFFILIATION

Many City positions require union membership within 30 days of hire.
