Redmond Downtown Transit Center

Project Update:  Construction of the new Downtown Transit Center on NE 83 Street began in April 2007.  Temporary revisions for the start of construction are being put in place now to move bus operations off of NE 83 Street.  Commuters can continue to use the Park and Ride lot and access the temporary stops on 161 Avenue NE.  For more information about the temporary facilities that are expected to be in place for the next nine months during the construction of the new transit center, see the flyer that was distributed to local retailers and residents.  A map of the temporary reroutes and facilities is included with the flyer.

Funding Source:  King County Department of Transportation, Sound Transit

City of Redmond Project Manager:  Joel Pfundt (jpfundt@redmond.gov)

Status:  In construction.  It is anticipated that the transit center will open by the end of 2007.

Project Description:  Consistent with Redmond's Transportation Master Plan to enhance transportation choices and support pedestrian activity in Redmond's downtown, a new Downtown Transit Center will be located on the current site of the existing bus transfer facility on NE 83 Street.  Improvements on NE 83 Street between 161 and 164 Avenue NE will create a pedestrian-supportive environment while significantly improving transit efficiency.  This project is a joint effort by the King County Department of Transportation, the City of Redmond, and Sound Transit.

For more information about the new Downtown Transit Center on NE 83 Street, check the King County website at http://www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/tod/redmond.stm.

This project involves minor widening to the intersection to add a dedicated right turn lane on southbound NE 76 Street to westbound Redmond Way. Also included will be pavement repairs and an overlay of NE 76 Street north of Redmond Way. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) project to improve the SR 520 flyover ramp is anticipated to start shortly after this project is complete.
