Site-Specific Performances 2007
Throughout Arts in the Parks, artists have been engaging artists in new ways. Subhashini Santhanam demonstrated the art of Henna, traditionally a symbol of happiness, prosperity, and well-being in India at the first Redmond Arts Jam. Paul Rucker, an extraordinary improvisational cellist began the first of 50 cello performances throughout King County at Redmond City Hall. Vaughn Bell brought her Cultivation Utility Vehicle through the park, offering “land adoptions” to the people she met.

On September 15, Rob D’Arc will present 3 Minute Theatre at Redmond Town Center. Through this performance, featuring a two seat theatre and beautifully designed sets and costumes, 3 Minute Theatre condenses the whole theatrical experience into a few minutes. “3 Minute Theatre encourages in its audiences a spirit of curiosity, risk taking, and playfulness, while offering a detour from daily reality,” writes D’Arc.

Theater Simple comes to Redmond Saturday Market on September 29 with a new performance entitled Park Bench. Park Bench is an interactive live theater piece that is unpredictable, mobile, and personalized. A small flatbed truck will be outfitted with sod, a tree, and a park bench. People who pass by will be asked to “sit on the park bench” and participate in the project by telling their own stories.

The Redmond Arts Commission is co-sponsoring the 2007 FREE Eastside Symphony performance on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Redmond Senior Center (8703 160th Ave. NE) at 1:00 p.m. The show will feature:

Site-Specific Performances 2006

FREE performances of the Sound Theatre Company's production of The Tempest by William Shakespeare were held September 9-24. This unique production was presented in the water and on the shore of Redmond's breathtaking natural setting of Idylwood Beach Park. Utilizing water puppetry, stage design and movement, The Tempest was part of the 4Culture King County Performance Network Site Specific Arts Happenings.

On September 16, 2006, the Pony Boy All Star Big Band performed at Redmond Saturday Market (7730 Leary Way). The 17-piece band includes musicians and swing dancers interacting with the community. This fun and involving set of big band music, classics and new works, with dancers encouraged audience participation.

Molten Vocals performed at Redmond City Hall (15670 NE 85th St.) and Redmond Post Office (16135 NE 85th St.) on Tuesday, October 24, 2006. The enjoyable acoustic vocals in public spaces ranged from playful rhythmic grooves to spacious vocal landscapes to simple songs.

Site-Specific Performances 2005

FREE performances of Neighborhoodlum were held at Jerzys Coffee October 7, 2005 and Victors Coffee on October 8, 2005. By One Lump or Two Productions, "Neighborhoodlum puts a human face on the homeless. Little consideration is ever given to who they are or how they came to suffer their plight. Neighborhoodlum hopes to soften people’s hearts and open their minds to the real lives of homeless teens by creating a truly unexpected and unforgettable experience that may encourage people to make a difference in helping to solve the homeless problem in their own communities." Funding support was provided by King County Performance Network.
